Abell 262 - Observing Notes

I observed the cluster on eight occasions and identified a total of 47 cluster members down to photographic magnitude 15.7, the majority of which are so-called anonymous galaxies not found in the NGC or IC catalogues.--Steve Gottlieb

17.5: fairly faint, slightly elongated SW-NE, broadly concentrated halo,
small bright core.  Located 2.5' W of a mag 10.5 star at the NW edge of
Abell 262 galaxy cluster.

17.5: moderately bright, edge-on 4:1 SW-NE, bright bulging core, thin
tapering extensions, fairly striking appearance.  A mag 13 star is just S
of the SW tip 1.5' from the center.  Three mag 12 stars form a shallow
obtuse triangle close N with the nearest star 1.8' NW.  Located at the SW
edge of Abell 262 galaxy cluster.

13 (10/20/84): very faint, small, elongated WSW-ENE.  One or two extremely
faint stars possibly involved.  Located between two stars mag 7 and 8.

17.5: extremely faint, very small, irregularly round.  Several faint stars
near including two mag 14 stars 0.8' SSW and 0.9' SW and a mag 13.5 star is
1.6' WSW.  Located in the Abell 262 cluster with N700 lies 3.7' SE.

17.5: very faint, small, round.  Two mag 14 stars are collinear 1.5' WSW
and 2.7' WSW.  Located about 8' SW of the central core of Abell 262 in a
group of four galaxies with U01336 3.7' NW.  This galaxy (CGCG 522-030) is
not identified as N700 in any of the major catalogues.

Lord Rosse described this gx as "about 8' sp same group [N703, 704, 705,
708]."  This rough position is a much better match with Z522-030 than
U01336 = Z522-027 which is identified as N700 in RNGC, UGC and CGCG.  MCG
lists M+06-05-024 = N700.  Reinmuth suggests an apparent anonymuos gx:
"identif doubtful; perhaps eeF vS neb sp 1.2' N704."

N708 2.7' NE.  This is a double galaxy (unresolved).

13: fairly faint, very small.  Second brightest of four in the core of
Abell 262.  Observed on 9/22/84 and 12/11/82.

13: faint, very small, third brightest of four in the core of Abell 262.
Observations made on 9/22/84, 10/22/84 and 12/11/82.

13: very faint, very small, star less than 1' SW between N703 and N704.
Observed on 12/11/82, 9/22/84 and 10/20/84.

member of Abell 262 is situated 7.4' NNE of U01344 in a trio with U01350
which lies 6.7' S.

13: very faint, small, round, largest in group of four.  A mag 15 star is
off the N edge.  12/11/82, 9/22/84.
